My homepage, amanyus.com, based on WordPress, rolled out into the world wide web last week. So I'll be sharing my daily findings, thoughts and notes there.

I've exported all posts from here to my website too. Until now, I'm still unsure about this blog's future. To leave it as it is or rename the URL. This blog has been going on since June 13th 2006. Its fate will be decided later.

My first search engine is AltaVista. Then I used Yahoo! before becoming a Google lifetime user - yeah, for this moment.

Next September 27th is Google's 10th birthday. Well done G. Keep up improving your search (i'm waiting for human computational result).

I just can't describe how much Google has helped me in the past few years.

Gentle With Your Keyboard

I just learn that, (after years of facing terminal), the more you minimize your typing mistakes, lesser the potential of screwing up or end up your work dissatisfied. It helps me thinking better too.

Think before you type. Think again before you press enter. Avoid typing too fast (because there are kids who think typing fast shows that they're good). Type slow not too slow, sit back and relax. Enjoy the cleanliness of your terminal output.

p/s: Yeah, I've worked with business critical environment... and I did screw up a few times :-p And this came to my mind while I was watching a 'really good' but not sys admin guy, typing neatly.

While I was riding just now...

I discovered two variables that is depending each other, affecting each other and blaming each other.

Don't Care & Don't Know.

"I don't care because I don't know"
"I don't know because I don't care"
"I didn't know, so I don't care"
"I didn't care, so I don't know"
"I don't know, so I don't care"
"I don't know and I don't care"

So how about people who doesn't know, but showing others that he/she cares? Isn't that pretending? Isn't that a big lie? Now try to relate this terminology with anything in this real world and find out if you one of them. Because knowing the wrong things might get you in a wrong place. Caring about the wrong things.

The next question might probably be, is the knowledge and information we have, is it right? Is it a fact? Is it ultimately true enough to convince yourself and be a strong reason for you to care?

Not so related: Smart people is growing in numbers, and so does fools...

Kenapa bahasa baku?

Kalau tidak biasa memang nampak jelek. Perkataan jelek bukankah dari bahasa Indonesia?

Saya baru sedar yang bahasa kita dalam keadaan yang sangat pincang. Walaupun saya juga pernah menulis bahasa ibunda saya sendiri dengan cara yang salah, ejaan yang tidak betul, mungkin kerana poyo (poyo bukan perkataan yang benar-benar wujud, poyo adalah contoh perkataan yang telah dicipta oleh orang sezaman dengan saya). Saya juga sedar nilai bahasa melayu telah teruk diketepikan.

Faktor-faktor yang saya telah kenalpasti ialah penangan globalisasi dan idea-idea yang mengagumi nilai-nilai barat sehingga bahasa inggeris lebih dipandang mulia oleh orang Melayu sendiri. (Kenapalah bangsa kita dipanggil 'melayu', kenapa tak 'mengembang' ke, adakah orang terdahulu terlalu lurus untuk mengalih bahasa, sehingga perkataan inggeris 'malay' menjadi melayu? Kenapa tidak mengambil perkataan malaya menjadi erti bangsa daripada negara? Sebab saya percaya setiap perkataan yang difahami itu merupakan satu doa). Maaf. Rasanya saya telah jauh merepek :-p

Saya tersedar bila saya baru perasan yang abang root selalu menggunakan bahasa yang betul di ITTutor. Walaupun ramai yang sudah mengubah bahasa secara sesuka hati ikut gaya asing dan ejaan bahasa melayu yang berbau inggeris (botak:bowtuck), abang root tetap dengan pendiriannya sampai sekarang.

Kalau hendak difikirkan salah atau tidak, memang tidak salah pun ejaan atau tulisan sesuka hati dengan alasan, asalkan orang kedua dapat memahami apa yang disampaikan. Tanpa kita sedari kita telah mencampak buang salah satu dari nilai-nilai bangsa kita. Keterbukaan kita telah melampau. Kita sudah mengambil ringan hal ini.

Perubahan polisi negara untuk menekankan bahasa inggeris juga saya anggap bukan suatu kaedah yang paling tepat untuk memajukan bangsa. Saya tahu langkah ini dibuat untuk memantapkan penguasaan bahasa inggeris dikalangan anak muda tetapi mungkin perlaksanaannya kurang baik sehingga mengakibatkan kemerosotan kepenggunaan bahasa melayu.

Saya gemar mengambil contoh negara Jepun. Mereka berjaya bangkit dan maju dengan pesat tanpa bergantung dengan bahasa luar. (Janganlah ambil contoh lain yang tidak elok, sebab akan menunjukkan sempitnya fikiran anda) :-)

Kita sedia maklum bahawa internet bakal menjadi media penyampaian yang paling besar suatu masa nanti dan mungkin akan menggantikan kertas. Apa yang ditakuti, ilmu-ilmu yang telah ditulis di buku-buku mungkin akan dilupakan kerana remaja-remaja sekarang lebih mudah dan lebih gemar mendapatkan maklumat melalui internet. Jadi bagaimana hendak membawa penulisan-penulisan buku ke dunia internet?

Kita perlukan perpustakaan digital kerana masih banyak ilmu dari berbagai bidang masih sukar dicari di internet melainkan ilmu-ilmu yang bersangkut paut dengan sains komputer. Kita perlukan buku yang telah di-digitalkan dimana enjin pencarian yang maju seperi Google dapat mencari maklumat dari jutaan hasil penulisan yang telah dibukukan. Dan setiap buku, setiap bab hendaklah disertakan dengan metadata yang tepat agar hasil enjin pencarian lebih bermakna.

Sebenarnya idea dan imaginasi saya menggambarkan mesin pengimbas yang dapat menukar imej teks yang diimbas dari setiap halaman buku kepada teks digital dengan pantas. Teknologi pengimbas biasa yang ada sekarang berfungsi dengan sangat lambat.

Bagaimana jika kita menggunakan teknologi kejuruteraan mesin pengira wang dibank sebagai enjin untuk meyelak muka surat setiap buku dengan pantas. Kemudian kita menggunakan teknologi fotografi terkini untuk menangkap gambar dengan sepantas mungkin dan setiap gambar ditukar ke teks digital dengan menggunakan sistem komputer teragih.

Mungkin suatu hari nanti kita tak perlu ke perpustakaan semata-mata untuk membaca apa yang tidak dapat dicari di internet.

I experience intermittent connection tonight. I used ping to ping my PC in the same network, Jaring.my and Google.com. No problem for PC and Jaring, but Google gives high time and missing packets only occur on google connection. And I got weird external IP here which is 124.x.x.x So I guess TMNET is doing some maintenance and gave us weird IP.

isi khutbah hari ini yang melekat

Allah takkan mengubah nasib sesuatu kaum sampai kita berusaha untuk mengubah nasib kita sendiri. Kenapa nak majukan Islam? Lihatlah pada zaman kegemilangan Islam dulu. Sekarang kita bekerja hanya kerana tanggungjawab tapi kita tak dapat hubungkan tanggungjawab berkerja itu dengan ibadah. Dan kita tidak baca Quran dengan ertikata tidak memahami isinya dan menggunakannya untuk kebaikan diri sendiri.

dah dengar banyak kali tapi aku tetap lupa huhu. benda di atas ditulis ketika mendengar seperti murid menulis nota bila gurunya mengajar. nota nota di atas juga tidak mengikut turutan tapi mengikut sesuka hati apa yang melekat dalam kepala.

aku duduk di kawasan yang confirm orang takkan duduk sbb kalau nak masuk duduk sini kene kempiskan perut utk masuk celah tangga. lepas tu byk kain baju penyapu barang orang yang tido masjid kot. tah kenapa bila aku dok sini ramai pulak ikot duduk situ. selama ni tak pernah pun aku tengok orang dok sini.

orang orang ni tak nak jadi pertama. nak jadi pengikut je. lepas tu bila aku dah tak dok sini minggu depan dan seterusnya, mesti orang lain yang pernah duduk sini akan teruskan tradisi duduk sini... atau tidak. atau aku je yang kene start. huh

Cerewet Jual Beli

Kita beli makanan tengahari. Lepas tu diorang(penjual) ni letak harga sampai kita leh tercakap, "mahalnye,". Kemudian dia bagi muffin percuma pulak. Aku tergembira kejap tapi lepas seminit aku terpikir,peliknya bila penjual letak harga tinggi kemudian beri lagi makanan percuma... Aku rasa makanan yang diberi tu adalah contoh benda yang kita dipaksa beli. Betul ke kalau aku bagi rumusan yang kebebasan membeli kita terjejas? Mana ada benda percuma kat dunia ni. Makcik, saya tak mau muffin ni, saya nak makanan saya beli ni diletak harga berpatutan... Tengs.

Tips Kejut Orang Bersahur

Pagi ni kita sambung sikit sesi panduan kita dengan tips-tips untuk kejutkan pasangan atau rakan kita untuk bersahur. Sahur merupakan ibadat, sunat untuk dilakukan. Jadi kalau tak bersahur, kurang lah pahalanya…

Baiklah, antara cara yang mula-mula kita lakukan ialah:

1. Pegang anak jari kiri/kanan sambil tu panggil nama dia perlahan-lahan.
2. Sentuh bahu orang yang tidur tu dan goyangkan perlahan lahan sambil panggil nama dia.
3. Renjis air kat muka dia sambil panggil nama dia.
4. Tampar tampar manja pipi dia sambil panggil nama dia.
5. Tutup kipas/air cond.

Tapi kalau masih tak berkesan:

1. Jerit nama dia kuat kuat.
2. Gigit ibu jari kaki dia macam hantu toyol gigit.
3. Simbah air sebaldi, kalau boleh air rendam baju dalam.
4. Tarik rambut dia sampai dia jatuh dari tilam.
5. Goyangkan badan dia kuat-kuat sambil menjerit, “gempa bumi! gempa bumi! tsunami!
   tsunami!”
6. Jerit “api! api! api!”
7. Letak hidangan KFC atau McDonald atau pun ikan patin masak tempoyak yang baru dibeli di sebelah hidung dia - bagi dia ambik bau sikit.

Tapi kalau masih tak berkesan juga:

1. Pergi kat telinga dia dan sebut, “maa rabbuka!” - sambil seru nama dia banyak kali.
2. Duduk bersila di sebelah dia dan baca surah yaa sin!

Tapi kalau masih tak berkesan juga, ini saja cara terakhir:

1. Panggil orang masjid/surau untuk uruskan - kerana Tuhan lebih menyayanginya. Innaa liLlaahi wainnaa ilaihi rooji’uun.

Tapi bagi maman lak, bile ada kuih free yang banyak jenis, air soya biasa yang murah tapi sejuk sambil melayan internet dengan PCnya yang terletak di atas meja barunya yang dibeli di Jusco bersama kerusi berwarna kuning setelah mengetahui gajinya masuk awal.

Maman wrote, "refering to a problem which a silly type of virus which keep users from using Firefox and pop out a message - I Dont hate Mozilla but use IE or Else... isn't a good example as a virus developer. The irresponsible person crafted the virus to attack opensource/free software users. I just can say that the person behind this are coward. Thank you.

Here is the solution:

1. Open the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del.
2. Go to the Process Tab.
3. End task with the name svchost.exe which run ONLY under your username.
4. Type c:\heap41a in your address bar of your file explorer. This is the only way to open this folder. It won't be visible by just browsing My Computer.

You have done it! Give a smile :-) and you can use your Firefox again.

Backup Your Yahoo Messenger ID Contact Before Worst Thing Happen

I and my friends had a conversation last night about hijacked Yahoo! ID and we agreed on what the saddest thing about it - lost of ID contacts. So this morning I figured it out how to backup YM contacts by exporting them from Yahoo! mail.

Login to your Yahoo! mail and go to Addresses tab at the top. Then click Import/Export link which is located on the right between Sync and Options button. Scroll down to Export section and click Yahoo! CSV: Export Now. You will automatically download a dot csv file. To check the content, use Microsoft Excel to open it.

Additional steps on securing your Yahoo ID: Take your security question seriously, use symbol combination in your password, and avoid entering password on accepted/received URL.

Thing About Email : Cc and Bcc

They are carbon copy and blind carbon copy. The recipient and anyone specified in those two(Cc & Bcc) will accept the email. The different is, everyone who accept the email, will only see email addresses in Cc but not addresses in Bcc. Bcc hides them.

Machines Opening

Today, Machines(KLCC) had their official opening and there were 50 units of iPod Shuffle sold with 50% off. I thought I would be one of the first ten person, but i was totally wrong. It was 8.30am and there were about 20-30 people already standing in front of the closed store. Some of them I heard came at 7. Feh! Met a few person who aren't so familiar with Apple, but have the desire to have one product. Been asked a no-brainer question also(silly but funny).

And I also met this Machines guy from the Mid Valley Machines store and we(with kevler) talked about few cool things. There were drinks and pastries and not to forget, the new iMac which didn't really caught my attention. What so sad is, no iPhone preview and they announced the cancellation last minute. Anyway, Machines did a good job and thanks for paying 200 for my 1st mp3 player. Erm..I dislike Apple earphone. I prefer my sennheiser =p

Yeah, I've heard this somewhere, Azul bought an iPhone from San Francisco and manage to unlock and use it here in Malaysia. Well, I'm looking forward to Azul at the next MyMug meetup =p

Internet Connection Sharing on Mac OS X

Windows ICS is painful. Unlike Mac OS X which involve only three steps in System Preferences. Sharing > Internet Tab > Start. Now everybody in my house can surf!



Like what you see here I've set up a sharing preferences where other computers are able to connect to my laptop using wireless connection and share my internet access which I've connected to using bluetooth through my handphone.

Mac OS X + Motorola RAZR V3X + 3G Internet

Surfing with Windows on my mom's laptop is hardly enjoyable since I'm a Mac user. But we use 3G connection on a her Motorola RAZR V3X. On Windows, the setup is pretty straight. Not for Windows.

1. Download the Motorola GPRS Modem scripts from here.
2. Unzip the scripts, and copy the "Motorola GPRS CID1" script file to the "/Library/Modem Scripts" folder.
3. Set up Bluetooth. System Preferences > Bluetooth. Make sure that "Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar is checked".
4. Turn on your Motorola, and make sure that Bluetooth is on and discoverable (Connections > Bluetooth > Find Me).
5. On your Mac, in the Bluetooth settings (System Preferences > Bluetooth) select the Devices tab, and then press the "Setup new device" button. You can also select this item from the Bluetooth icon on your task bar.
6. Follow the instructions and pair the Motorola with your Mac.
7. In step 4 of 5 of the pairing process, make sure to check the "Access the Internet with your phone's data connection" checkbox, and select the "Use a direct, higher speed connection to reach your Internet Service Provider (GPRS, 1xRTT)" Radio Button. Select continue.
8. In the next screen, leave the username and password blank. For the GRPS CID String enter *99#, and for Modem Script, select "Motorola GPRS CID1". Click continue. Then click Quit.
9. Open Network Preferences (System Preferences > Network), highlight USB Bluetooth Modem Adaptor, and click configure.
10. Don't change TCP/IP settings. Switch to the PPP tab. Leave everything blank, except the Telephone Number which should be *99#.
11. Click the PPP Options button, and make sure that "Send PPP echo packets" is unchecked. This is very important. If you don't do this step, the connection will disconnect after a few seconds. Click OK.
12. Switch to the Bluetooth Tab, and make sure the correct Modem Script is selected, and everything is checked except for "Wait for dial tone before dialing".
13. Switch back to the PPP Tab and click the "Dial Now..." button. Set configuration to "Other" and leave everything blank. Press the "Connect" button. After a second or two a terminal window will come up, just hit the continue button.
14. You should now be connected. Open a browser and browse to a web page to make sure you are connected.
