Security analyst

Earlier, when people asked about my occupation, they always thought that I work for a real security company with armored van and guards with guns who protect shops or ATM machines in banks. That is different.

I protect clients' computer network. If you're working in a company(mostly big companies) which uses computers that are connected together and able to access the internet, there are people who are protecting the network for you. Bear in mind that the Internet is not a safe 'place' to be. Viruses, malware, adware or spyware may infect your computer directly or indirectly.

Ignore the details on how they're doing it. Just want to let you know that the security analysts(and skilled mischievous people) are monitoring what you are doing on the internet - emails, instant messaging, surfing etc. - which means they sees the information. Except for passwords which are sent in encrypted form.

If you want to encrypt your outgoing message in your Instant Messenger, let say Yahoo Messenger, Windows' users can use Simp Lite (here). It is also available for MSN Messenger, ICQ/AIM and Google Talk.

There is also methods to encrypt web based email such as Gmail but that I will simplify it later here.

I've been using gaim for a while and its got plugins for encryption. As for emails, gnupg rocks! and many email clients have support for it.
